How Much Does a Small Business Website Cost in 2026? (Real Price Ranges, Including Ours)
Website quotes for the “same” small business site can range from a few hundred dollars to fifteen thousand. Here’s what each price level usually gets you in 2026, the costs that come after launch, and every one of our own website prices.
The short answer
The biggest factor is who builds it. According to The Lonely Entrepreneur’s 2026 guide, a do-it-yourself site on a builder costs about $200 to $800 a year, a freelancer typically charges $1,500 to $5,000, and an agency usually charges $5,000 to $15,000 or more. An online store costs more, often $3,500 to $15,000.
At GoCited, a custom small business website is $799 for one page, $1,497 for three pages, and $3,500 flat for up to ten pages. Every price is published on our pricing page.
What websites cost in 2026
Price guides don’t agree with each other, because “a website” can mean a one-page template or a fully custom site with booking and payments. Here are ranges from two 2026 guides side by side, so you can see how much they vary.
| Who builds it | Typical cost | Source |
|---|---|---|
| You, on a website builder (Wix, Squarespace) | $200–$800/yr | The Lonely Entrepreneur, 2026 |
| Freelancer | $1,500–$5,000 | The Lonely Entrepreneur, 2026 |
| Agency | $5,000–$15,000+ | The Lonely Entrepreneur, 2026 |
| Basic 5–10 page site, freelancer | $1,000–$3,000 | Oui Digital, 2026 |
| Basic 5–10 page site, agency | $3,000–$8,000 | Oui Digital, 2026 |
| Online store | $3,500–$15,000 | The Lonely Entrepreneur, 2026 |
These are build costs. Costs after launch are covered further down.
What makes a website cost more or less
- Number of pages. A one-page site is a very different job from ten pages that each explain a separate service.
- Template or custom design. Templates are cheaper. A custom design is built around your business, so it doesn’t look like thousands of other sites.
- Who writes the words and supplies the photos. If your text and images are ready, the project goes faster. If someone has to write and shoot them, the price goes up.
- Features. Online booking, member areas, forms, payments, and connections to other tools each add work.
- Languages. A site in two languages, such as English and Korean, needs every page written and set up twice.
- Speed and structure. Making a site load fast on phones and easy for search engines and AI to read takes extra care that cheaper builds often skip.

Why our prices sit where they do
Our prices are near the low end of the freelancer range, but each plan is a custom design, not a resold template. That’s possible because we focus on small local businesses with a clear, fixed scope, and because one small team handles design, development, and AI search setup together. You can compare what’s included line by line with any other quote, which is exactly why we publish it.
Costs that come after launch
The build price is only part of the story. One 2026 guide estimates $80 to $300 a month in ongoing costs for a small business website (The Lonely Entrepreneur). Here’s where that money usually goes:
- Domain name. Usually $10 to $20 a year (Upwork, 2026).
- Hosting. The server that keeps your site online.
- Security updates and backups. Especially for WordPress sites, which need regular plugin and software updates.
- Content changes. New services, prices, photos, and seasonal hours.
- Paid plugins or tools. Booking systems, forms, and email tools sometimes have their own subscriptions.
Before you sign anything, ask who owns the domain and the site files, and which of these costs are included. The answer matters more than the sticker price.
Warning signs in a website quote
- You won’t own your domain or site. If the provider registers the domain in their own name, leaving later can mean starting over.
- No page list or revision limit. A clear quote says how many pages you get and how many rounds of changes are included.
- A template sold as “custom.” Ask to see the theme or builder they use and a few sites they made with it.
- No mention of phones or speed. Most customers will see your site on a phone first.
- Nothing about how search engines and AI will read it. In our study of 97 NYC dental websites, 52% had no FAQ and 29% had no structured data at all. Those gaps are much easier to avoid during the build than to fix later.
Already have a website?
You may not need a new one. If your site is in decent shape but customers can’t find you, the problem is usually visibility, not design. Run your site through our free AI-Readiness Checker to see where it stands. If it’s structurally sound, a monthly Get Cited plan may be the better use of your money. We explain what that costs in what it costs to show up in ChatGPT and Google AI answers.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a small business website cost in 2026?
It depends mostly on who builds it. A do-it-yourself site on a builder like Wix or Squarespace usually costs about $200 to $800 a year, a freelancer typically charges $1,500 to $5,000, and an agency usually charges $5,000 to $15,000 or more, according to The Lonely Entrepreneur's 2026 guide. GoCited websites start at $799 for one page, $1,497 for three pages, and $3,500 flat for up to ten pages.
Is a website builder like Wix or Squarespace good enough?
For a new business testing an idea, often yes. Builders are the cheapest way to get online, but you do the design, writing, and upkeep yourself, and you are limited to what the platform allows. When the website needs to win customers, show up in search and AI answers, or handle booking and payments, a professionally built site usually pays for itself faster.
What ongoing costs should I budget for after the website is built?
Plan for a domain name, which typically costs $10 to $20 a year, plus hosting, security updates, backups, and occasional content changes. One 2026 guide estimates $80 to $300 a month for a small business website in total. Ask any provider exactly which of these are included and which you pay separately.
Does a cheaper website hurt my chances of showing up in AI answers?
Not because of the price itself, but cheaper sites often skip the parts AI relies on: clear answers to customer questions, structured data that states your business details, and text that loads in the page itself. In GoCited's study of 97 NYC dental websites, 52% had no FAQ and 29% had no structured data. Every GoCited website includes this setup, including the $799 plan.
Disclosure. GoCited is a bilingual (English/Korean) web and AI-visibility studio in New York, and we sell the website services described in this guide.
